News

August 2022 – Phillip Seewalker, a RRI resident worker, made the news on KFYR-TV and explains how he incorporates his cultural heritage into an artistic talent he never thought he had by creating decorative teepees.

June 2022 – If you’ve ever walked into the showroom at RRI, you’ve probably noticed a wooden teepee or two. Teepees are hand-crafted, uniquely designed, and painted by one of RRI’s talented Native American resident staff, making them 100% authentic to Native American culture and heritage. Learn more about Phillip Seewalker, the talented individual behind these beautiful pieces of art, by reading and/or watching his story.

January 2022 – RRI manufactured “search boxes” for the Bismarck Police Department to be used for K-9 training.

October 2021 – On October 25th, Governor Doug Burgum and First Lady Kathryn Burgum hosted the fifth annual Recovery Reinvented event, a daylong in-person and online event focused on reinventing recovery through eliminating the stigma of addiction. The governor and first lady emphasized the importance of sharing individual stories of people’s journeys from addiction to recovery, creating recovery-friendly cultures in the workplace and community and eliminating stigma by getting involved in advocacy. Three RRI resident staff had the opportunity and courage to share their stories on recovery. Also, RRI made name badges and challenge coins to be given to those in attendance. August 2021 – RRI held their annual summer cookout in appreciation for their resident employees’ hard work throughout the 2021 fiscal year. Director Rick Gardner also had a special surprise in store for the cookout event…

July 2021 – Check out this Summer 2021 newsletter from National Correctional Industries Association (NCIA) where RRI staff member, Alexis Burgard, has an article featured the newsletter which discusses why she works in Correctional Industries (CI). Alexis’ article can be found on pages 48-49.

August 2020 – RRI residents are working hard to reach a production goal of 100,000 face masks by the end of August 2020.

August 2020 – RRI stepped up to help fill the demand for face masks, wellness barriers and other products used amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

August 2020 – Jamestown River Correctional Center (JRCC) residents make masks to help in the fight against COVID-19.

April 2020 – Jamestown River Correctional Center (JRCC) residents make masks and gowns for North Dakota agencies in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Our JRCC team is doing a great job of converting their normal operations into mask and gown production.

March 2020 – Check out this Spring 2020 newsletter from National Correctional Industries Association (NCIA) where RRI has an article featured in the newsletter which discusses the many ways RRI offers modern technology to its resident workers to achieve successful reentry once they are released from prison. RRI’s article can be found on pages 12-15.
